DoE Charts Path for Offshore Wind Grid Network 0324 - A connected offshore wind network would cut down on grid congestion onshore and increase reliability of the electricity system overall. It would also allow power to flow to areas of high demand when needed as well as move from low-priced areas to high-price areas to cut electricity costs for consumers, according to DoE.    As one example, DoE said New England’s electricity system could be tied to the onshore grid in the mid-Atlantic via offshore networks.

Why China Is Having So Many Problems Ramping Up Wind Power 0516 - more MW than US, but fewer MW-hours.  China’s wind turbine quality is lower, wind farms sprout without transmission connections, or the grid dispatches coal plants instead of curtailed wind, when wind is cheaper (almost $0/MWh variable cost), in places because coal is used for combined heat and power, in other just because wind is intermittent and coal is hard to ramp up and down.

Is Climate Change Slowing Down the Wind? 0922 - From 1978 until 2010, research showed a worldwide stilling of winds, with speeds dropping 2.3% per decade.  In 2019, though, a group of researchers found that, after 2010, global average wind speeds had actually increased — from 7 miles per hour to 7.4 miles per hour.
Despite those conflicting data, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change forecasts slowing winds for the coming decades.  By 2100, that body says,    average annual wind speeds could drop by up to 10%.
